Ford Foundation Fellowships - Graduate Studies.
The Ford Foundation Dissertation Fellowship is intended to support the final year of writing and defense of the dissertation. The awards will be made to individuals who, in the judgment of the review panels, have demonstrated superior academic achievement, are committed to a career in teaching and research at the college or university level.
Each year, the program offers approximately 70 awards for graduate pre-doctoral study — which provide three years of support that can be used over a five-year period — and 36 awards for dissertation research and 20 postdoctoral awards, each of which provides one year of support. Ford Fellows are students, professors, and administrators.
Dissertation Awards This year the program will award approximately 35 dissertation fellowships. The dissertation fellowships provide one year of support for individuals working to complete a dissertation leading to a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) or Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) degree.
Through its program of fellowships, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.
